SawStop PCS 3HP Review

An honest first-person look at the SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw (PCS)—why I chose a cabinet saw, bought it new at Woodcraft, wired the shop for 220V, and how the 3…

I chose the SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw (PCS) because I wanted a stable, accurate cabinet saw that could handle everyday work without turning the shop into a production line. I bought it new at Woodcraft, wired the shop for 220V, and have been learning where a 3 HP machine fits into the work I actually do.

Why I Chose a Cabinet Saw

A cabinet saw is a commitment to accuracy, capacity, and a solid work surface. My smaller saws had their place, but I wanted something that stayed put, tracked reliably, and gave me room to work safely around larger boards. The PCS is substantial without feeling like it belongs only in a commercial shop.

Buying It New at Woodcraft

I bought the saw new at Woodcraft. That meant getting the machine, base, and accessories together and thinking through delivery before it arrived. The PCS is not a casual impulse purchase, so the buying process was part of deciding whether this was the right upgrade for the shop.

Wiring the Shop for 220V

The shop needed a 220V circuit before the saw could become part of the routine. Planning that work ahead of time made the installation straightforward and gave the saw the power it was designed to use. It is worth treating the electrical setup as part of the saw purchase, not an afterthought.

How the 3 HP Machine Fits Everyday Work

The 3 HP motor gives the PCS confidence when a cut asks more of it, while the cabinet and table keep the work supported. In everyday use, the biggest difference is not just horsepower; it is the combination of stability, repeatability, and a layout that makes common cuts feel less fussy.

What I Like

  • The solid, stable cabinet-saw platform.
  • Useful capacity for normal shop projects.
  • A motor and table that make repeat cuts feel deliberate.
  • Safety features that are part of the machine rather than an add-on.

What I Would Watch

This is a large, expensive tool, and it needs a prepared home. Delivery, assembly, dust collection, electrical work, and a realistic footprint all matter. The PCS earns its space when you use those capabilities, but it is not a substitute for careful setup or good habits.
